Born in Melbourne, Australia, Adrian first distinguished himself as a prizewinner in all of the major Australian Singing Competitions. He was accepted on full scholarship to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, where he studied under Professor Rudolf Piernay. He completed his studies at the National Opera Studio with the support of the Friends of Covent Garden. He currently studies with Julian Gavin.
He was hailed as "a remarkable talent" (Opera Magazine) following his college performances as Vaudemont Yolanta, making his European debut at the Opera Comique, Paris, as Benedict Beatrice et Benedict; a performance guided by the mentorship of Regine Crespin. A further invitation followed to sing Francesco Benvenuto Cellini in Orchestre de Paris' 2003 Berlioz cycle under the direction of Christoph Eschenbach.
Adrian made his North American debut during 2004 as Rodolfo in Baz Luhrmann's TONY award-winning production of La Boheme at the Ahmanson Theatre, Los Angeles, subsequently winning a Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award for Outstanding Performance. This role has featured prominently in his career, with other engagements including Rodolfo in Francesca Zambello's Royal Albert Hall production, and in South Africa for Cape Town Opera.
Other European highlights have included his mainstage debut at Scottish Opera as Count Almaviva Barbiere di Siviglia, at English National Opera as Arturo Lucia di Lammermoor, at Opera North as Miroslav/Harpist Excursions of Mr Broucek and Robert Skin Deep, Sam Kaplan Street Scene (The Young Vic/The Opera Group, Buxton Festival), Macduff Macbeth (Scottish Opera), Perez Koanga (Sadler's Wells), Vakula in Cherevichki (Garsington Opera), Leicester Maria Stuarda and Tamino Die Zauberflote (Grange Park Opera), Almaviva in Paisiello's Barbiere di Siviglia (Buxton), Lensky Eugene Onegin (Aldeburgh Festival), Don Ottavio Don Giovanni (Opera Holland Park and Belle Ile Festival France), Edgardo Lucia di Lammermoor (Iford), the title role Fra Diavolo (Stanley Hall), and Jenik The Bartered Bride (Mid Wales Opera).
In his native Australia he has sung Alfredo La Traviata and Almaviva Barbiere di Siviglia for Opera Queensland, Ismaele Nabucco for the State Opera of South Australia, as well as Steuermann Der Fliegende Hollander with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under Oleg Caetani.
On the concert platform he has performed with The Bayerische Rundfunkorchester at the Prinzregententheater Munich (Bernstein Trouble in Tahiti), the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at the Edinburgh International Festival (Vaughan Williams Serenade to Music), The Philharmonia Orchestra (Rossini Stabat Mater, Petite Messe Solennelle), The English Chamber Orchestra, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall (Verdi Requiem, Orff Carmina Burana), The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Manchester Camerata, L'Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Léonard da Vinci/Opera de Rouen (Mahler/Schoenberg das Lied von der Erde), The English Festival Orchestra (Verdi Requiem), The Britten-Pears Orchestra (Mendelssohn Lobgesang), the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, the Queensland Orchestra and the State Orchestra of Victoria, under conductors such as Richard Bonynge, Sir David Willcocks, David Stern, David Parry, Nicholas Braithwaite, Ulf Schilmer, Elgar Howarth, Anthony Inglis, Marc Soustrot, Francisco Bonnins, Sergio la Stella, Paul Daniel, Martin Andre, Robin Stapleton and Anthony Inglis.
His recordings include Cherevichki with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Elgar Howarth, Der Fliegende Hollander with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra under Oleg Caetani, and Gardener in Trouble in Tahiti with the Bayerische Rundfunkorchester under Ulf Schilmer.
Upcoming engagements include a return to Scottish Opera for Excursions of Mr Broucek, reprising his highly-acclaimed interpretation of Sam Kaplan Street Scene for Opera de Toulon, Roderigo Otello with Graham Vick's Birmingham Opera Company, Edgar Promised End for English Touring Opera and Fenton Falstaff for Diva Opera. He can also be seen in concert at Bridgewater Hall (Manchester) and the Royal Philharmonic Hall (Liverpool).
